Troubleshooting ideas for Antminer KS3 asic num less than design

2025/6/12

When the Antminer KS3 miner operates with unstable hash rate, how do we troubleshoot and repair it?

I. Find the source of the fault

Enter the miner backend management interface and query the fault report through the kernel log. The log reports chain 1 "detected asic num less than design (72<92)", indicating that the number of ASIC chips on the No. 2 hash board is incomplete. The normal number should be 92, but only 72 ASIC chips are detected here.

II. Troubleshooting Guide

1. First, use the chip universal test fixture to troubleshoot the No. 2 hash board. For specific usage steps, please refer to the video tutorial.

• Plug the 4-pin voltage regulator cable and the 6-pin power supply cable of the PSU into the interface of the test fixture, respectively. One end of the hash board ribbon cable is connected to the test fixture. The test fixture is connected to the computer via a USB-to-TTL cable.

• Power on the tester and start it. After the self-test is completed. Then, use the red and black alligator clip cables to clamp the positive and negative poles of the hash board, respectively. The other end of each cable is connected to the positive and negative poles of the power supply. Then insert the other end of the hash board ribbon cable into the KS3 faulty hash board.

• After all cables are connected, insert the TF program card that matches the KS3 miner hash board. Press the test button to start the test.

2. If the test fixture detects that the ASIC chip No. 72 is abnormal. Then use one end of the tweezers to place it on the negative pole of the domain where this chip is located, and the other end short-circuit its TX (CO/CI) signal.

3. If the short-circuit data is the same as the result displayed on the fixture, it means that there is no faulty chip between chips No. 1 to No. 72, and continue to short-circuit in the direction of chip No. 92.

4. For example, when we short-circuit chip 73, the test fixture still shows 72 ASIC chips, which means that chip 73 is faulty. Check the TX (CO/CI) signal voltage of chip 73. If it is abnormal, check the voltage of the resistor connected to it. If the resistor voltage is faulty, it is recommended to replace it.

If you encounter difficulties during the maintenance process and are unsure of the following steps, please consult ZEUS MINING's professional technicians. We will also continue to update the fault article to provide more help to friends.
