Ethereum Classic Mining Guide

Created 2026/02/05 Updated 2026/02/05

Ethereum Classic (ETC) is a decentralized, open-source blockchain that supports the creation and use of smart contracts. It originated from the original Ethereum fork after the 2016 DAO event. Unlike Ethereum, ETC consistently adheres to the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, making mining an important component of its network and attracting many investors.

 Ethereum Classic Mining Manual

I. Ethereum Classic Mining Hardware

1. ASIC Miners

ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) miners are hardware specifically designed for cryptocurrency mining and are the most efficient option for mining ETC.

For example, Innosilicon A10 Pro or Bitmain Antminer E9 are designed specifically for mining Ethash-based cryptocurrencies (such as ETC). They offer high hash rates and low power consumption, but are less flexible than GPUs.

2. GPU Miners

Due to the DAG file size, the ETC algorithm requires at least 4GB of VRAM for effective mining. To adapt to future network changes, it is recommended to choose newer GPU models with 6GB or more of video memory.

Recommended models:

AMD GPUs: Radeon RX 580, RX 5700, RX 6800 series, which provide good performance for the Ethash algorithm used by ETC.

NVIDIA GPUs: GTX 1070, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3080, which strike a balance between hash rate and power efficiency.

II. Ethereum Classic Mining Software

1. Ethminer: An open-source command-line miner that supports AMD and NVIDIA GPUs.

2. GMiner and NBMiner: Highly compatible and efficient, supporting both AMD and NVIDIA cards.

3. Claymore Dual Miner: Allows dual mining, where miners can mine ETC and another cryptocurrency simultaneously for extra profit.

4. MinerGate: Provides a graphical user interface for easy setup. For most mining software, you need to configure a .bat or .ini file containing your mining pool information and wallet address. For example, when using Claymore, your configuration string might look like this:

EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool eu1-etc.ethermine.org:4444 -ewal

0xd69af2a796a737a103f12d2f0bcc563a13900e6f -epsw x -eworker rig1

In this example, you need to replace eu1-etc.ethermine.org:4444 with the corresponding mining pool URL and replace 0xd69af2a796a737a103f12d2f0bcc563a13900e6f with your Ethereum Classic wallet address.

III. Ethereum Classic Wallet

Before you start mining, you need an ETC wallet to receive your earnings. Common wallets include: Trust Wallet, Exodus, Ledger (hardware wallet), Trezor (hardware wallet).

IV. Ethereum Classic Mining Pools

Due to the competitive nature and difficulty of the network, solo mining ETC is challenging. It is recommended to join a mining pool to improve the stability of your earnings.

Recommended mining pools:

1. Ethermine.org: Known for its low fees and high reliability.

2. F2Pool: F2Pool is the largest mining pool for Ethereum Classic (ETC) and the third largest for Bitcoin (BTC).

3. 2Miners: Offers multiple payment methods including BTC or ETC.

Joining a mining pool requires setting the pool's URL and your wallet address in the mining software's configuration file. For example, when using the f2pool mining pool, you need to set:

Pool/URL: stratum+tcp://etc.f2pool.com:8118

User/Worker: Account name.Worker name

Password: Can be set by yourself

V. Mining Security Precautions

Miners are often targets of hackers and scammers. Protecting your assets and equipment is very important:

1. Wallet Security: Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) whenever possible.

2. Regular maintenance: Keep your hardware clean and update your mining software regularly.

3. Stay informed: Pay attention to mining pool announcements and software updates, and adjust your mining strategy promptly to adapt to network changes.

By following the steps above, you can gradually set up your own ETC mining environment. Happy mining!
