Litecoin Mining Guide

Created 2026/02/28 Updated 2026/02/28

Litecoin mining works similarly to Bitcoin, but uses the Scrypt algorithm, which makes transactions faster and supports joint mining with Dogecoin (DOGE).

How to mine Litecoin

I. Litecoin Mining Steps

Step 1: Prepare a Crypto Wallet

Before you start mining, you need a wallet to store your mining earnings. You can choose a suitable wallet type based on your needs, such as an online wallet, which is easy to use, convenient for daily asset transfers, and also provides strong security.

Go to the official website of your chosen wallet to download the application, follow the instructions to create a new wallet, and be sure to keep your mnemonic phrase safe. After creation, note down your wallet address, as you'll need it for later mining setup.

Step 2: Choosing the Right Mining Hardware

Hardware configuration directly determines mining efficiency and profitability. Different solutions have their own advantages and limitations:

1) ASIC Miners (Recommended)

If you want efficient mining, ASIC miners are the ideal choice. Common Scrypt algorithm miners on the market include:

Antminer L11: 20GH/s hashrate, 3680W power consumption

ElphaPex DG2+: Hashrate 20.5GH/s, Power Consumption 3900W

2) GPU Graphics Cards (Second Choice)

If you already have a high-performance graphics card, you can also try GPU mining. Although less efficient than ASIC, it's still usable.

3) CPU Processors (For Experience Only)

Using a CPU for mining is very inefficient and only suitable for learning or experimental purposes.

Step 3: Select and Configure Mining Software

After preparing the hardware, you need to install suitable mining software. This software will connect your device to the Litecoin network and enable mining.

Recommended software:

CGMiner: Powerful, open-source, compatible with various hardware

EasyMiner: User-friendly interface, suitable for beginners

BFGMiner: Feature-rich, suitable for experienced miners

Download and install the corresponding software from its official website, and complete the basic configuration by filling in your username, password, and other information as prompted.

Step 4: Choose a Mining Method

You can decide whether to mine independently or join a mining pool. If you choose to join a pool, you need to obtain and add the pool's URL in the software's other settings.

Step 5: Start Mining and Track Earnings

Once your hardware and software are set up and configured, and you have joined a mining pool, you can start mining. It is recommended to check the running status and earnings regularly to ensure everything is working properly. Once you have accumulated a certain amount of LTC, you can transfer it to the wallet set up in step one.

II. How long does it take to mine one Litecoin?

To estimate the time required to mine 1 LTC, you need to consider the following factors: your hardware computing power, the overall network difficulty, the current block reward, and the average block time.

For example, Antminer L3++ has a computing power of 580 MH/s. Assuming a network difficulty of 13,000,000 and a block reward of 12.5 LTC, theoretically, mining a complete block will yield 12.5 LTC. If you mine the entire block alone, it would take approximately 8.94 minutes to mine 1 LTC. However, in reality, most people mine through mining pools, and the actual time and percentage of rewards will vary depending on your contribution to the pool's total computing power.
