How to repair the Antminer S21 Hydro miner eeprom read failure?

When the Antminer S21 Hydro miner experiences abnormal operation data and the hashboard information is missing, which typically causes the miner to fail to start, how can we quickly identify the cause of the failure and resolve the issue so that the miner can resume hashing work?

Fault conditions

1. After the Antminer S21 Hydro miner is powered on, under normal circumstances, the red indicators on the control board should be off, and the green light should be flashing. Currently, the indicators are all always on, indicating that the miner has a fault.

2. We enter the background of the miner to check the operation information, which shows 0 hash rate, and the mining pool connection is also abnormal.

3. When these phenomena occur, the management interface of the S21 Hydro Miner cannot display any operating information of the three hash boards.

Troubleshooting steps

1. Check the miner log to find out the problem:

a. The kernel log shows that three hash boards have been found, but "load chain 2 eeprom data, got nothing" is reported three times, indicating that the chain 2 eeprom file failed to read and the data could not be loaded.

b. When one of the control boards of the miner fails, the device activates the self-protection mechanism to prevent damage to other hash boards. Therefore, the power will be turned off to the three hash boards, and the mining equipment will not start normally.

2. Power off the miner and re-flash the eeprom file.

a. In case of the above faults, first power off the miner. Then remove the faulty chain 2 hash board from the S21 Hydro miner, then take out a good hash board from it. It is convenient to read the correct eeprom file and rewrite it for the failed chain 2 hash board.

Tip: The EEPROM file data must be identical across the three hash boards. If the EEPROM data of any of them does not match, the control board will not be able to recognize it correctly.

Step 1: Preparation

Use the white 5V power cable adapter to power the code editor. Insert the red and white cable into the good hash board to read the correct EEPROM file. (The computer here is only used for power.)

Step 2: Read the EEPROM file

• Press the FN function button of the code editor, select F3, then press OK. Select "Read eeprom" and press the confirmation button. When the following interface appears, we need to enter the eeprom file name of the miner, then select the Enter key, and finally click the OK button to read and save the correct hash board eeprom file successfully.

Step 3: Write eeprom file

• Reinsert the code editor cable into the faulty chain 2 hash board, press the FN function button, select F3, press OK, select "Open EEPROM" on the display, and press OK. Then select the EEPROM file saved in step 2 and press the confirmation button again.

Step 4: How to Check Whether the EEPROM File Was Written Successfully or Failed?

• When the code editor makes a beeping sound and the number jumps at OK in the lower left corner of the screen, it means that the file has been successfully written to the chain 2 hash board.

• If the number jumps at NG, it means that the file has failed to be written. we need to operate again. If the eeprom chip is damaged and cannot be written successfully, just replace it.
