The MPLAB® PICkit™ 5 internal circuit debugger/programmer from Microchip Technology supports rapid prototyping and portable, production-ready programming of all Microchip components, including PIC®, dSPIC®, and SAM (Arm®) devices. This kit works with the MPLABX Integrated Development Environment (IDE) to provide a powerful, easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) for debugging and programming. The MPLAB PICKit 5 can also be used as a standalone debugger/programmer for mobile applications via Bluetooth® connectivity. The MPLAB® PICkit 5 supports various interfaces, including four-wire JTAG, serial line debug (SWD), and a streaming UART virtual communication port (VCP). The debugger adapter board (AC102015) uses standard connectors for JTAG, SWD, ICSP, and AVR protocols. The PICkit5 features a unique Programmer-To-Go function and can also be powered by the target board. Programming the default image is as simple as pressing the hidden button below the logo. Users can also connect via Bluetooth using a mobile app, browse the microSDTM card installed in the tool for different images, and start programming the target board directly from the app.

PICkit 4 in Circuit Debugger Programmer

The MPLAB PICkit4 in-circuit debugger/programmer uses the powerful graphical user interface of MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE) version 4.15 for fast and easy debugging and programming of PIC and dsPIC flash microcontrollers. MPLAB PICkit 4 uses a high-speed 2.0 USB interface to connect to the designer’s computer and can be connected to the target through an 8-pin single in-line (SIL) connector. This connector uses two device I/O pins and reset lines to implement in-circuit debugging and in-circuit serial programming (ICSP). There is also a micro SD card slot, which can automatically supply power from the target machine, which means you can carry your own code with you and program it at any time.

MPLAB PICkit 4 programming is faster than its predecessor and is ready to support PIC and dsPICMCU devices. In addition to a wider target voltage, PICkit 4 also supports advanced interfaces, such as 4-wire JTAG and serial wire debugging with streaming data gateway, as well as the use of 2-wire JTAG and ICSP for backward compatibility with demo boards, headers and target systems. PICkit 4 also has a unique programmer-and-go function, and adds a micro SD card slot for saving project code and powered by the target board.

Using PICkit 4 to develop embedded systems, developers can use the graphical user interface of MPLAB X integrated development environment (IDE) for debugging and programming. PICkit 4 uses a high-speed USB 2.0 interface to connect to the development engineer’s computer, and connects to the target via an 8-pin single-in-line straight plug that supports high-end interfaces. Such high-end interfaces include 4-wire JTAG and serial wire debugging interfaces with streaming data gateways. In addition, it can be backward compatible with demo boards, plugs, and target systems using 2-wire JTAG and In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP).
