On September 1st, Glassnode reported that Bitcoin is currently fluctuating around $78,000, having largely held onto the strong gains that began at the $64,000 level at the end of August after breaking through $80,000. The overall digital asset market still shows strong institutional demand, but spot and derivatives trading activity has cooled in some areas. Meanwhile, price momentum is significantly higher than the upper limit of the statistical range, and the difference between secondary market turnover and cumulative spot trading volume (CVD) suggests that the market's order book strength may be shifting, with retail participation weakening.
Traditional financial funds continue to flow into regulated crypto investment products, with US spot Bitcoin ETF holdings remaining profitable and continuing weekly net inflows. At the same time, short-term, price-sensitive funds are entering the market, coinciding with high open interest in options and a rapid narrowing of volatility spreads, indicating that market participants may be underestimating short-term volatility risks. On-chain data also exhibits characteristics of "active settlement, weakening user participation": the adjusted transaction volume is significantly higher than normal levels, but the number of daily active addresses and total transaction fee revenue have slightly decreased.
Overall, the Bitcoin market is transitioning from a strong upward trend to structural differentiation. Continued institutional investment and a recovery in on-chain valuations are supporting the market, but at the same time, speculative leverage is increasing, and signs of short-term selling are beginning to emerge. Market fundamentals remain robust, but the risk of short-term volatility and pullbacks is rising.
