According to reports, the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro will officially start accepting bitcoin for payment of its real estate and urban property tax (IPTU) within its city limits. Chicão Bulhões, Rio de Janeiro’s Minister of Economic Development, Innovation, and Simplification, announced that the new crypto tax law will be implemented in 2023. In support of the cause led by Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes (supporting the use of cryptocurrencies to pay taxes), Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao announced the opening of a new office in the region.
