Liechtenstein PM Wants Citizens to Pay for Government Services in Bitcoin

2023/5/8

In a recent interview, Liechtenstein Prime Minister Daniel Risch stated that “the bitcoin payment option is coming.” Liechtenstein plans to accept bitcoin as payment for government services and then convert it immediately into Swiss francs. In 2019, Liechtenstein passed the blockchain bill, becoming one of the first countries in the world to pass a cryptocurrency regulation bill. Since then, various cryptocurrency-focused businesses have set up shop in the country. In April, Liechtenstein's VP Bank announced an expanded partnership with Swiss digital infrastructure provider Metaco to help it offer cryptocurrency custody services to clients.
